THE URBAN OUTREACH CENTER

The Urban Outreach Center provides a structured and safe bridge for children from Kindergarten to 8th grade to receive mentoring, tutoring, and social skills training. Children who are enrolled also receive instruction on basic college preparation and career discovery. High school and college level volunteers are recruited to be tutors. Adult staff members in the afterschool and summer camp programs then mentor these youth volunteers. A small stipend is paid to the youth volunteers as a way to influence their work ethic and encourage their continued participation and contribution. The Urban Outreach Centers operate year round in communities of need at no cost to the families living in those communities.

Center Goals:

1. Increase in reading and math scores
2. One or more levels improvement in grade
3. Reduction in office referrals for behavior issues
4. Improved self concept and confidence
5. Decrease in drop out rate for young people ages 14-18

SERVE THE CITY CHESAPEAKE

Serve the City Chesapeake brings together hundreds of volunteers with City Officials, churches, civic organizations, and businesses that work together to serve our community through improvement projects, and other activities designed to meet needs within the city.

Improvement projects include:

   1.   Park and neighborhood beautification and enhancements

   2.   Building repair or renovation and landscaping

   3.  Community garden, park, or playground projects

   4.  Community clean-up initiatives

VOLUNTEER ADVOCATES FOR CHESAPEAKE YOUTH
Volunteer Advocates for Chesapeake Youth is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide services to children, youth and families to prevent or reduce juvenile court involvement, while increasing community awareness of issues facing youth and families through advocacy and education.

The partners of Heart of Compassion Partnerships consists of those compassion networks, ministry partnerships, who desire to affiliate with Heart of Compassion Partnerships and agree to work together cooperatively strengthen youth, families and communities.

The end result is neighborhood revitalization, as local neighborhood leaders are identified, equipped and trained to carry on a sustained community impact through mobilization and mentoring.
